Culture and History
St. Albert was founded within 1861 by Father Albert Lacombe, who built the chapel in the Sturgeon flow of any stream vale. the class action settlement flourished; two or three years fallowing its instauration, a class action of Grey Nuns moved to St. Albert from either Lac Ste. Anne & although a city has since adult & diversified, it maintains an image as a French Catholic front yard.
Now, a city plays unsuspecting hosts to the International Toddlers's Festival, a annual Rainmaker Rodeo, various plays & musical comedy performance at a Arden Theatre (which is a portion of a equivalent complex when the St. Albert city hall & library, within the building designed by Douglas Cardinal) as well as a thriving weekly farmers' market outside City Hall in the summer months.
Hockey in St. Albert
Inside 2004, a team's Alberta Junior Hockey League team, the St. Albert Saints, which had been one of the most prestigious teams in the league during its life and produced players such as Mark Messier and Mike Comrie, moved to nearby Spruce Grove. This move, allegedly due to the age & little size of Akinsdale Arena, caused a select few dismay amongst a citizens. Despite a brief effort from either fans to save the team, within August 2004 the newly re-known as Spruce Grove Saints played their first game around Spruce Grove's Grant Fuhr Arena.
